Scott Gordon, Vice President, Residential Sales - HelioPower

"DECENTRALIZATION OF THE GRID"

What is the ‘Smart Grid’? How will it affect the way we produce and consume electricity? What are the applications driving the smart grid and the technologies that will enable it? As we’ve seen with distribution models in other industries, our electricity grid is becoming dynamic and decentralized. Energy will begin flowing in multiple directions. Large power plants will take on an increasingly smaller role as installations of grid tied solar, wind, and fuel cells begin to proliferate. What does this mean for the big utilities? What does it mean for wealth creation?

Scott Gordon is the Vice President of Residential Sales for HelioPower.

Before moving to the renewable energy sector, Scott spent 10 years as a software/systems engineer at Fujitsu, Lucent/Avaya, and several Silicon Valley start-ups. In late 2006, Scott decided to trade in his white collar for a "green" one while shopping for a solar system for his own home. Since then, Scott and his team have sold several megawatts of residential solar PV systems across California and Nevada.

Scott was the driving force behind HelioPower’s first 1 Block Off the Grid (1BOG) campaign in 2009. The success of this and subsequent 1BOG campaigns have propelled HelioPower’s residential sales organization into California’s Top Ten. In late 2009, Scott forged a partnership with SunRun to offer Residential PPAs in the markets HelioPower serves. By allowing customers to go solar for as little as $1000 down, SunRun is now the financing vehicle of choice for over 50% of HelioPower’s residential customers.

Currently, Scott is traveling around California speaking about a range of topics that affect the solar industry including: The Ugly Side of Solar, The Decentralization of the Grid (Grid 3.0), Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE), and Solar Energy Legislation.

Scott graduated from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and is Chairman of the Board for Materials Matter. Materials Matter is a non-profit organization that provides recycled/reclaimed building materials for non-profit construction projects throughout the continental United States. To date, Materials Matter has kept over 100 million pounds ofmaterials out of landfills and provided building materials to dozens of charitable organizations.
